I’ve spent 20 years inside the American healthcare system — managing home and community-based care for large national Medicare and Medicaid plans, overseeing home health benefit programs where every service we delivered was delivered inside someone’s home. I’m also a Certified Aging in Place Specialist through the National Association of Home Builders and a certified Senior Home Safety Specialist through Age Safe America.
And like a lot of people my age, I’ve sat at the kitchen table with my own aging family members and had the same conversation millions of families are having right now — how do we make sure this home is safe for the person living in it?
That combination of professional experience and personal reality is what shaped the way Forever Home Keepers works. Not a call center. Not a national franchise. A local team, built around a process that treats every senior’s home the way I’d want someone to treat my own parent’s home.
Here is exactly what that process looks like.
It Starts With a Conversation, Not a Checklist
Before we look at a single grab bar or test a single smoke alarm, we sit down with your family.
That might sound simple. But in my experience, most home safety services skip this part entirely — they show up with a clipboard and start measuring doorways before they’ve asked a single question about the person who lives there.
We start with the person, not the home.
What does your parent’s daily routine look like? Where do they feel uncertain or unsteady? What parts of the home do they avoid? What are their goals — and what would have to change for them to feel confident here for the next five to ten years?
The answers to those questions shape everything that comes after. A home safety plan built around a person’s actual life looks very different from a generic checklist. That difference is exactly why we start here.
The Free In-Home Safety Assessment
Once we understand your family’s situation, we walk the home — every room, every transition, every area where risk tends to hide.
We look at things most families overlook entirely. The path from the bedroom to the bathroom at 2 in the morning. The threshold at the garage entry. The lighting at the top and bottom of the stairs. The door hardware that hasn’t been updated since the home was built. The throw rugs that look perfectly harmless and aren’t.
We assess the home through the lens of aging — which means we’re looking not just at how the home works today, but at how it will need to work over time as your parent’s mobility and sensory needs change.
This assessment is free. There is no obligation.
We do it this way because we believe you deserve a clear, honest picture of your parent’s home before you make a single decision. No pressure. No sales pitch. Just an accurate, experienced evaluation of where the risks are and what it would take to address them.
The Home Readiness Plan
After the assessment, we put together a personalized home readiness plan — a prioritized list of modifications and improvements specific to your parent’s home and their needs.
Not everything needs to be done at once. Part of what experience teaches you is how to distinguish between what needs to happen now, what can wait six months, and what to plan for down the road. We walk your family through all of it so you can make informed decisions on your own timeline.
We tell you exactly what we recommend, why we recommend it, and what it will cost — in plain language, in writing, before any work begins.
If a modification is outside our scope, we tell you that too. Our job is to be a resource your family can trust, not to find work where it isn’t needed.
The Work Itself — Done the Right Way
Every professional we send into a client’s home is background-checked, Licensed & Insured, and trained specifically in aging-in-place modifications.
That last part matters more than most people realize. Installing a grab bar is not complicated. Installing a grab bar in the right location, at the right height and angle, anchored correctly into the wall structure — that requires someone who understands why the placement matters for that specific person’s height, grip strength, and daily movement. That is a meaningfully different skill set from general handyman work.
Our team holds CAPS certification through the National Association of Home Builders — the industry standard for professionals working in this space. When we make a modification in your parent’s home, it is made to last and made to work.
The work we do ranges from simple to comprehensive — grab bars and handrails, lighting upgrades, lever-style door hardware, threshold ramps, non-slip surfaces, smoke alarm testing and replacement, HVAC filter changes, and full bathroom safety packages, among others.
Accountability After Every Visit
Here is something I feel strongly about, shaped by two decades of watching healthcare services enter people’s homes.
When someone works inside a vulnerable person’s home — especially when family members aren’t present — accountability is not optional. It is the foundation of the entire relationship.
After every visit, your family receives timestamped, geotagged before-and-after photos documenting exactly what was done and where. You do not need to be there to know the work was completed correctly. You do not need to take anyone’s word for it.
You will have a clear, documented record of every single thing that was done in your parent’s home.
Most home service providers do not do this. We do it because we think you deserve to know — and because the families we work with are often managing from a distance, balancing careers and their own households while trying to make sure a parent is safe. That documentation is how we close the gap.
Ongoing Support That Grows With Your Family’s Needs
A safe home is not a one-time project. It is an ongoing commitment — and needs change as the people living in the home change.
Our Age @ Home membership program provides regular, scheduled maintenance visits — quarterly, bi-monthly, or monthly — so that small issues are caught and addressed before they become bigger problems. Members receive priority scheduling and savings on all safety packages.
There are no long-term contracts. No pressure to commit to more than your family needs right now.
Our goal is to be the team your family calls first — not because you are locked in, but because the relationship has earned that trust over time.
The Bottom Line
The process we follow at Forever Home Keepers is built around one central belief: that helping a senior stay safely at home is not a transaction. It is a relationship — one that starts with listening, moves through careful assessment and skilled work, and continues with honest accountability long after the job is done.
If your family is starting to think about what your parent’s home needs — or if something has already happened that made the question urgent — we would be glad to start with a conversation.
The assessment is free. The commitment to doing it right is not something we compromise on.
